WashU Engage* Philadelphia - Tree House Books

Join WashU alumni, parents, and friends on Saturday, March 30th at Tree House Books. We will be preparing materials for an upcoming book fair. Tree House Books has a vision that every child in Philadelphia has access to books and every opportunity to pursue their dreams. Their mission is to grow and sustain a community of readers, writers, and thinkers.

Since 2005, Tree House Books has provided programs that spark a lifelong love of reading and writing in children from their earliest moments through high school and beyond. Their space is a warm, safe haven for children to explore their interests. They support the crucial role families play in creating a literacy-rich environment and actively work to promote families reading together at home. Everything they do is made possible through the investment and support of the community.

Our group will help Tree House Books prepare materials for an upcoming book fair. Children are welcome. There is no minimum age, but please use your best judgement as to whether the children are old enough to engage in this activity. Space is limited.

Please consider bringing a children’s book to donate – either gently used or new.

*The Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement and the Washington University Alumni Association work with alumni leaders across the country to plan alumni service opportunities that are meaningful and needed in their communities. More in depth than a typical service project, these events include an educational component and discussion designed to give participants a better understanding of the needs, assets, and challenges within their community. This is the third year of WashU Engage, an initiative which works to advance the institute’s mission of cultivating informed and actively engaged citizens. WashU Engage also supports alumni engagement with local communities and fosters connections among alumni.
