Join the WashU Engage Washington, D.C. Network and the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement as we volunteer at the Fairfax Law Foundation Heroes v. Villains Run for Justice 5K and Kids Fun Run! This event supports Fairfax Law Foundation’s pro bono program, which provides legal services for low-income Fairfax County residents and law-related education programs for students.

Please note there will be a mandatory volunteer meeting at approximately 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the race.  Doughnuts and coffee will be available to volunteers on the morning of the race. We hope to see you at this fun, family-friendly activity!

Requirements (please read carefully prior to registering):

  • In order to volunteer as course marshals, you must be at least 16 years old.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and attire as your shift likely will require standing or walking.
  • To participate with WashU Engage Washington, D.C., you must register through this website as well as through the Fairfax Law Foundation's volunteer sign-up page. Volunteer slots are limited; thus, we recommend registering as soon as possible. The “course marshal” position is most needed. Volunteers will be positioned around the race course to direct runners and traffic, and to cheer on runners.
  • Volunteer positions very close to the starting line will be available to accommodate health conditions.
  • Parking is available at the Fairfax Corner shopping center – next to the race starting line. Carpools will be facilitated, based on availability.
  • Hero and villain costumes are welcome! However, if you are placed on the racecourse, you will be required to wear a safety vest over your clothing. Fairfax Law Foundation will provide the safety vests on race day.
