Join the WashU Boston Network for an epic, beer-filled adventure that combines history, alumni pride, and the spirit of Samuel Adams!
We’ll start off with a leisurely 0.65 mile, mostly-flat, 60-minute walking tour led by the lively folks at Boston By Foot. On the scenic route, we’ll uncover the intriguing life of the legendary patriot, Samuel Adams, from his early business misadventures to his iconic role in the American Revolution.
The tour will end at the fabulous Samuel Adams Brewery Downtown Taproom, where we’ll welcome a very special guest, Master Cicerone® Shelley Smith, MBA ’08, who will share her path to becoming a beer aficionado. We’ll feast on mouthwatering bites, raise our glasses to an array of incredible brews, and even get exclusive sneak peeks at the latest Boston Beer Company creations still in the works.
This isn’t your average history lesson or beer tasting event; it’s a mix of education, entertainment, and incredible alumni connections. Join us as we celebrate the best of Boston, WashU style.
All ages are welcome, but the tour is best suited for ages 10+.
Shelley Smith will be joined in conversation with WashU Boston Network co-chair, Carl Kaplan, BS ’85.
Shelley Smith, associate director of R&D brewing and operations at the Boston Beer Company, leads beer development for the Samuel Adams and Dogfish Head brands and manages operations for all Boston Beer Company taproom sites and R&D labs. She is a Master Cicerone® with over 20 years of experience in the beer industry. Smith holds a degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University, a master’s degree from WashU, and an international diploma in brewing technology from the World Brewing Academy.
