A group of top national leaders in public health will gather for a panel discussion moderated by Sandro Galea, MD, DrPH, the Margaret C. Ryan Dean of Washington University School of Public Health, the Eugene S. and Constance Kahn Distinguished Professor in Public Health, and the university's vice provost for interdisciplinary initiatives.

The panelists will discuss the erosion of public health infrastructure funding and its consequences for preparedness, workforce stability, and the health of the population. The panelists will situate these challenges in a broader political and economic context, including the reality of shrinking federal, state, and local budgets. The conversation also will focus on strategies to safeguard core public health functions and identify opportunities to reimagine sustainable investment in population health.

Panelists include: Georges C. Benjamin, MD, executive director of the American Public Health Association; Lori Tremmel Freeman, MBA, the CEO of the National Association of County and City Health Officials; Scott Harris, MD, MPH, immediate past president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials; and Laura Magaña, PhD, MS, president and CEO of the Association of Schools & Programs of Public Health.

Assembly Series programs are always free and open to the public, although seating is limited. No large bags or backpacks will be allowed into the event. Parking is available in the East End Parking Garage. This event is made possible by the Office of the Provost, the School of Public Health, and The Woman's Club of Washington University.
