The effects of the coronavirus pandemic continue to reverberate around the world, and universities are no exception. Since the crisis first began to impact WashU Olin Business School, the Olin community has pulled together to create the best academic experience possible, while still maintaining a safe environment for one and all. Dean Mark P. Taylor will share his thoughts on the “state of the school” in the midst of COVID-19, the impact of the crisis on the school going forward and the change mindset required to turn these circumstances into opportunities.

Mark P. Taylor - Dean and Donald Danforth Jr. Distinguished Professor of Finance, John M. Olin School of Business, Washington University in St. Louis
 

Dean Mark Taylor is one of the most highly cited financial economists in the world and has served as an advisor at the Bank of England and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC.

A leading global authority on international finance, Taylor began his career as a foreign exchange trader in the City of London. As a managing director at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, he led the European arm of the Global Market Strategies Group, a large global macro investment fund.

He is also the author or co-author of a number of books, including two of the leading European textbooks in economics and macroeconomics, and has held faculty positions at London’s Cass Business School, Oxford University and New York University’s Stern School of Business. Taylor joined WashU Olin after six years as dean at Warwick Business School.

Taylor holds master’s and doctoral degrees from Oxford University, London University and University College, London. In 2012, the University of Warwick recognized him with a higher doctorate for his lifetime contributions to the field of finance.

Taylor serves on the board of directors for St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, as a research fellow at the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, as a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and as a senior fellow of the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. Taylor has also served on the AACSB board. A skilled horologist, he owns a collection of fine antique English clocks, all of which he has restored himself.
